Has a Standard Model Solution to the Solar Neutrino Problem Been Found?
نویسنده
چکیده
The claim by Dar and Shaviv that they have found a standard model solution to the solar neutrino problem is based upon an incorrect assumption made in extrapolating nuclear cross sections and the selective use of a small fraction of the nuclear physics and of the neutrino data. In addition, five different solar model codes show that the rate obtained for the chlorine experiment using the Dar-Shaviv stated parameters differs by at least 14σ from the observed rate.

In a recent paper Dar and Shaviv (1994) presented results of calculations with an improved standard solar model (SSM) that suggest a standard physics solution to the solar neutrino problem. In a subsequent publication with a similar title Bahcall et al. (1994) have claimed to refute the results obtained by Dar and Shaviv. Here we show that the criticism and conclusions of Bahcall et al. are unj...

I consider phenomenological changes in the standard solar model with the goal of testing recent claims that the solar neutrino puzzle requires new particle physics. The assumption of a steady-state sun producing the correct luminosity and governed by standard microphysics appears to leave only one nonstandard solar model possibility open, slow mixing of the solar core on timescales characterist...

The 8 B solar neutrino flux predicted by the standard solar model (SSM) is consistent within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties with that observed at Kamiokande. The Gallium and Chlorine solar neutrino experiments, however, seem to imply that the 7 Be solar neutrino flux is strongly suppressed compared with that predicted by the SSM. If the 7 Be solar neutrino flux is suppressed, st...
متن کاملThe Solar Neutrino Problem - An Update
The B solar neutrino flux that has recently been measured by SuperKamiokande is consistent with the Ar production rate in Cl at Homestake. The gallium solar neutrino experiments, GALLEX and SAGE, continue to observe Ge production rates in Ga that are consistent with the minimal signal expected from the solar luminosity. The observed B solar neutrino flux is in good agreement with that predicted...
متن کاملStandard Solar Neutrinos and The Standard Solar Model
The standard solar model (SSM) yield a 8B solar neutrino flux which is consistent within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties with that observed at SuperKamiokande. The combined results from the SuperKamiokande and the Chlorine solar neutrino experiments do not provide a solid evidence for neutrino properties beyond the minimal standard electroweak model. The results from the Gallium ...
